Wednesday, 28th May, 2014

Having had a rough night's sleep (thanks to the noisy people staying in the hostel!), I was not too happy to get up this morning. However, things were made easier by the thought of toast and chocolate spread for breakfast! ;) After breakfast, we went up to look at the terrace- it was so nice! Decided I want a house with a terrace of some kind one day...

We decided to follow the 'perfect day' listed in the guidebook. This started with a walk up La Rambla, which was nice. It's changed a lot since we first visited a few years back- there's a lot less to it now :(
After walking along La Rambla for a while, we went into the Gothic Quarter, and found the Santa Maria del Mar Church. For a small fee we were able to go inside; it was very decorated (Check out the windows below!!), and there were lots of candles.
We had a look at the museum section, and then went outside to the garden, where I befriended a cat...
After we'd finished there, we wandered around the Gothic Quarter a little more, and got ice cream- I had mango sorbet. Then we walked back up La Rambla, and carried on up the Exiemple, which is another big road in Barcelona. We stopped to have a look at Casa Batlló, one of the Gaudí buildings- I really love the architecture of this one!

We had lunch in a sandwich place that was a bit like a healthy Macdonalds- I had a baguette. Interestingly, the tiles of the Exiemple were designed by Gaudí, hence the picture of my feet ;)
We wanted to go to the Sagrida Familia (the Gaudí cathedral), so we walked up to the area it's in- on the way we saw this banner, so of course I took a picture.
When we got there we found that the queue was huge, so decided to return on Thursday. Instead, we took the metro to Paral-lel, the stop near the sea. It started to rain a little, so we stopped in Subway to have a coffee.
When the rain cleared up a little, we walked down to the harbour, over the long bridge and into the shopping centre.

We spent a while there, then headed back up to the market on La Rambla. On the way we got caught in some pretty intense rain- we sheltered for a while, then decided we might as well make a run for it!
My mum wanted to take some pictures in the market, so we spent a while there- it was also dry, so it was a good place to go!

Went to a pitta place for dinner, then headed back to the hostel for the night (with a brief stop to take pics of the cat statue...).
