Number 19: An Experiment

Today I went to the library with BB and IG to do some revision. Somewhere along the line, this revision turned into shopping/mooching/general stupidity. Which was great, and just as useful as revision, in it's own kind of way.
Part of the shopping involved going into Head (music shop) where they had a large selection of albums for 50p. Basically, any old stock that people were just not silly enough to buy (including many many copies of a certain artist, but we'll come to that another time). BB and I both agreed to buy a random CD, just to see what it was like (though I ended up with two). BB went for an album by the aforementioned certain artist, whilst I got a compilation of 15 songs by 15 artists I've never ever heard of, and an album by someone we listened to once in BTEC Music.
So, the experiment. I'm about to listen to these songs (whilst revising, of course) and note down some of my thoughts. Call it expanding my horizons, music-wise. OR being risky. It's both. Anyway, here goes.

Rock The Net

I Won't Ever Be Happy Again- Bright Eyes
Very sparse. Oh, there's people oohing. And more instruments. This is interesting. I think I like this. Lyrics are a bit gloomy. Very gloomy. And there's the title. I'm undecided as to whether I like the singer's voice. Reminds me of a sheep. What was that!? That was vicious. More baaing.

31 Today- Aimee Mann
Bit... computerised. Oh, original first line. Hey, this is good. It reminds me of something, and I'm not sure what. Possibly Dido? Apparently baby Jesus knows. Hmm. Alright.

Cold Beer And Cigarettes- David Bazan
Something about this feels too busy and a little chaotic. Very electronic. I'm not sure. I feel a little dazed by this. It's like being in the house ride at a funfair. Gothic Archie-esque, in a bad way. Meh. IT almost got good then. I didn't like that.

Sleep- The Wrens
Sleep by The Wrens on Grooveshark
Piano. Hmm. Bit whispery. It's nice though. In a way. Piano interlude. Yeah, I really like this. A little gloomy. Okay, I guess quite gloomy. Sweet though. I definitely like this :) I'd like to listen to more of The Wrens. Never heard of them before. I feel like I should have done. Why have I never heard of them before!? This is great!! :)

Modulation- The Classic Brown
Modulation by The Classic Brown on Grooveshark
Oh dear. I'm so judgemental. But. Oh no. Oh no. Ugh. What's with the sustained notes? Can I skip? Please let me skip. I shouldn't. It could get better. Feel sick? At least it's over!!

Uganda- DJ Spooky feat. Saba Saba
Uganda by DJ Spooky Featuring Saba Saba on Grooveshark
Oh. This is... This is unusual. It's nice though. Wait. Not so sure. Hmm. What instrument is that? It's pretty. Noo, don't rap. Nooooo. Police siren? Oh no. This would make a great instrumental track. Such a waste of a good instrumental track. And I really like that instrument, whatever it is. Wind chimes? Oh, it's over!

Red- Palomar
Red by Palomar on Grooveshark
Atmospheric. Building up tension. Nice. This is really interesting. Cue the singing. Slightly contrasting. I can't decide whether this works or not.The singer sounds like the sort of person who'd do lullabies and nursery rhymes. It's okay. That's all, really.

Timothy Leary- Guster
This title is cool. Upbeat. This is good. I am happy. Yeah, I like it :) I wonder who Timothy Leary was/is? Yay! Very nice!

Time for tea. I will do the rest of this album and the other album at some point- either later this evening or tomorrow. This is really fun!! ^.^
