Women In Politics

This is really interesting- it's a table showing numbers and percentages of women in parliament internationally, ranked by country. Rwanda is first, with over 50% of women in their parliament; other high-scoring places include Andorra, Cuba, Sweden, Seychelles, Senegal and Finland. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom is joint 58th place (around 22.5% for both 'houses') whilst the USA is 78th (18.8% average between the two 'houses').
In the last 'rank' are Micronesia, Nauru, Qatar and Vanuatu, all with 0% of their parliament being female.
Considering that women account for roughly 50% of the population, this is pretty shocking- only 2 places actually have parliaments made up of 50% (or more) women. I wonder this is due to women not wanting to be in parliament or not getting to be in parliament; I suspect both, interlinked.
Food for thought, anyway. Has this world really progressed?
