The Ceiling Project: Day Six

Also known as THE FINAL DAY!!
Had a small setback... Part of the ceiling isn't actually wallpapered, it's painted- so the scratchy stuff was impossible to get off, and the new paper wouldn't stick. I was going to sand it, but small sections took ages, so in the end I gave up on that. My bright idea was to rethink totally- I papered as much as I could, then painted the final section in the orange I've used elsewhere in the room. Over that, I stuck one of my favourite favourite quotes ever, from the remarkable Dr Seuss!!

How To: Easter Egg Nets

***This is a scheduled post***
Following on from my post about the craft fair, I thought I'd share with you my favourite craft from the kids activity zone: the egg nets. It was a really simple thing to do, but looked elegant and beautiful!!
You will need:
- Circular pieces of netting/sheer material (any size really, try a few and see what works best!)
- Mini eggs
- Fake flowers with bendy stems (or ribbon!)

Literally all you need to do is lay the material on a flat surface (or even cup it in your hand!) and put the mini eggs in the middle- we used five for each, but you can alter that depending on size of material and whatnot. Then, gather the material into a bunch at the top so that the eggs are fully enclosed. Twist it round to tighten and create a narrower part, then wrap the flower/ribbon around there- this looks best if it's done quite tightly. Voila! You have an egg net!
As I said, it looks really effective, and it can be changed to suit any purpose really- for example, you could use sweets instead of eggs to create something less seasonal, or you could even use glass pebbles or similar to create a decoration!

Graffiti Time!

Today I went to a graffiti workshop, run by a group I've recently been getting involved with. The workshop was really fun- first, we played around with using spray paint freehand, which was fun, though difficult. It's so hard to get the lines the right thickness, and where you want them, and not let it run, and make it actually look okay!! I preferred the activity after, where we used pre-made stencils and just sprayed over them. That was quite easy, and looked really effective- here are the two I did :)

BEAR!
Next, we used the stencils to create pictures on old vinyl records. The 'twist' here was that we didn't have to use the whole stencils- we used sections of them to create interesting layered pieces. Mine used various pieces of stencils for the orange background, then a rose shape for the centerpiece.
Completed In Record Time... Hehehe...
Finally, we went back inside and began creating our own stencils. Unfortunately, I'm unable to go to the next session, so I won't be able to finish :( However, it was a really fun experience, messy hands and all!!

Number 39: Take many pictures on the last day and create scrapbook

Another one done ^.^ I turned my Leavers Book into both a photo album, with pictures right the way through, from the first day to the last, and also stuck in general memorabilia (ticket from Ache Brazil, luggage tag from Gambia etc.) to 'commemorate' my time at secondary school. I'm quite proud of it, and it's a really nice things to have to sum up the last five years!

Papier Maché

My sister decided to make a papier maché bowl last week- so I joined in. I now own three small bowls made of newspaper and wallpaper paste. The pictures are pre-painting, I'll post more once done.
Once they're done I'm going to use them to store things in my room, along with an old ceramic rat food bowl which is being painted silver.
That's all, really.

New Project

I'm making a happy book ^.^ Basically just a book filled with good memories, funny quotes from my own life, good quotes from other sources, song lyrics etc. Anything that can make me smile! It's based on realising that going back through this blog and looking at the different weird/funny stories has a really positive impact on my mood- so it makes sense to provide a portable way of doing that! Will post a few pics soon I'm sure :)

Corkboards- Genius Invention!!

Had a Duck-typical burst of creativity when I probably should have been sleeping... Ah well, I'm happy with te outcome. These three corkboards are right by my bed; they've been there for a while, holding memories, but I've rearranged them a lot. Also, converted the biggest into a mood board- currently looking sparse, but that will quickly change!!
