Folk Group

I belong to a folk group.
Yes, other people my age find this odd and rather funny, but for me, it's hugely important. It's a place I can go for an hour every week where there's an enormous amount of stupidity, hilarity, joking, fun and- of course- music. The people I've met through folk group are people who I know vaguely anyway, but who I've got closer to through folk. We've played in concerts, a school production, and last year we hosted a ceilidh (pronounced kayleigh, basically a Scottish barn dance).
Being part of the band has helped my confidence a heck of a lot, and gives me space each week to get away from stress and just enjoy being with some amazing people doing something I love. The music might be unusual- and in some cases downright odd!- but I've come to love that too, and I'm honestly so thankful that I've had a chance to be part of it all!
So, next time you laugh at someone for an unusual hobby or whatever, take a minute and remember that you don't know what it means to them, and sometimes the oddest of things can mean a lot.
