So, here's my year- in songs! These are songs that reflect my year, or mean something about my year, for whatever reason. Hope you enjoy :)
Closest Thing To Crazy- Katie Melua
Though I found this song in the summer of 2011, it's beautiful, and I've listened to it a lot this year, often when I need to calm down a bit.
As I Am- Goo Goo Dolls
Such a great message in this song! And yeah, very pertinent to this year, of people accepting who you are.
Sophia- Nerina Pallot
Though I knew of this song aaages ago, I didn't really start listening to it until this year. It's very nice, with a well-thought out 'play on words'.
All American Girl- Train
The bridge in this song is so so so good!!
(Still A) Weirdo- KT Tunstall
Well, doesn't the title of this song just sum me up? ;) My year has been very weird- and extremely wonderful.
Tightrope- Ron Pope
I discovered this artist earlier this year, and I'm glad I did; he writes very good, heartfelt songs.
I Hate Seagulls- Kate Nash
Reminds me of long walks with the dog, something I've done quite a bit of this year. Particularly in the rain.
Little Talks- Of Monsters And Men
Often referred to by people I know as the 'BTEC Music anthem' for our group. Having finished my BTEC course in July, and ending it on an amazing high with a performance of this song (though admittedly I merely played chords) this felt like a really relevant song for this year.
Vanilla Twilight- Owl City
Listened to this a lot during the year when I couldn't sleep. Such an amazing song.
She Is- The Fray
According to my iPod, this is one of my most played songs this year!
Same Mistake- James Blunt
This has ended up on the blog a couple of times, mainly because all too often it describes how I'm feeling. Hopefully, with the new year, things will change for the better.
Better That We Break- Maroon 5
My current favourite song!
Posh Girls- Scouting For Girls
Listened to this on repeat a lot in June. Okay, so it's not the... most acceptable (?) of songs. Still, it makes me laugh.
Quiet Times- Dido
Dido; someone I came across properly late last year, and have listened to a lot on and off throughout this year.
Cannonball- Damien Rice
I think this is definitely one of those songs that everyone will interpret slightly differently. For me, however, it's connected a lot to... well, stuff.
With Or Without You- U2
I know, this is reaally old, but it's so good!!
Summertime In The City- Scouting For Girls
My track of the summer. Whenever I hear it it reminds me of the good things- picnics, bike rides, shopping- that happened in summer 2012!
Pride- Amy Macdonald
I had to end with this one. Having both performed it and seen it live this year, it just represents holding on and aiming high. Which are both two pretty good things to represent! On a less relevant note, it sums up the general events of 2012- the jubilee and Olympics. If I had to choose one song for 2012, it would probably be this one.
