Haiyaa!!
This evening I went to a music concert at the Colston Hall (big, gold and a bit cold) to hear 'Beethoven Series'.
Got there fairly early; luckily my music teacher, GG, was also early, so chatted with her for a bit and waited for the others. Once everyone had arrived we had a few normal-for-us conversations involving chins, accents and the psychology of sex.
The concert started with Debussy- the afternoon fawn thing (technically I know the title, I'm just too tired to write it all out) which was very good.
The main part of the concert was a series of performances by Dame Evelyn Glennie- for those who don't know her, firstly, you should!! She's a deaf percussionist who plays using the musical vibrations, and she's absolutely amazing!!
Umm, interval involving learning how to jig and practising non-PC sign language, then second half.
More Evelyn Glennie!! Then Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 to finish.
The concert overran, so most of the group hurried away. However, my dad was late, and I had to wait, so GG and I decided we might as well go and see if we could see Evelyn herself.
And guess what?! We did! ^.^ She was really lovely, she spent some time answering questions for a young deaf pianist, which was really really sweet. She also signed our tickets ^.^ It was so great to meet her, even if I went all quiet! (GG is Scottish, as is Evelyn, so they compared accents and weather).
Had such a splendid evening!! Wish I had more evenings like this!!
Ooh, something I found really interesting and very very good- I normally have a slight vocal tic (ie: involuntary humming noises) which is present all the time, though I've grown used to it. I can stop it when I concentrate, but find that difficult. However, I noticed part way through that it wasn't there during the performance ^.^ This is the first time in possibly years that I've not 'had' the tic without having to force myself, so it was a pretty big event, even if it sounds tiny! It's back now, but that's still really good news as far as I'm concerned!!
Anyway, below is a picture of my (signed!) concert ticket; underneath that is a picture of it on my corkboard- note the (almost) pride position!!
Going to bed now, feeling so generally happy. Amaazing music and lovely people- what an evening ^.^
