Fighting Discrimination

For my RE exam (10 days) I have to be able to explain the work of two Christians in fighting discrimination, something I'm struggling with remembering. Therefore, I want to try explaining it through a blog post- apparently, explaining things to others is one of the best ways of revising! So it will help me, and maybe you'll learn a thing or two, or even be inspired. I'm also trying to 'touch type', just 'cause it seems like a cool skill to have. Anyway. Here goes.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu
Archbishop Desmond Tutu is a Church minister who fought against apartheid governments and racism in South Africa, predominantly in the 1980s. He organised peaceful demonstrations, as well as an international boycott of South African goods, and contributed not only to the demise of apartheid governments but also to the freeing of Nelson Mandela. He chaired the commission that helped a peaceful transition in South Africa; he's also won both the Nobel Peace Prize and the Gandhi Peace Prize.

Jean Vanier
Jean Vanier set up L'Arche- an organisation which provides communities where people with disabilities and their carers can live together and share a life, discovering and using each others' unique skills. He also set up Truth and Light groups, allowing people with developmental disabilities and their friends/family to share their hopes, fears and difficulties in life. There are now over 130 L'Arche communities in 30 different countries.

I think that's it. I haven't referred to my notes at all, anyway :) Took me a while to write because I kept misspelling things; this touch typing is kind of fun though!
