Hey! It's almost twenty past midnight and I'm feeling pretty shattered, but I thought I'd check in before heading off to the land of nod :) It's half term this week, and it's been a busy one. Mostly revision has happened- eugh. Still feels like I'm not doing enough :( As well as revision, I've been to a couple of parties- which were both super good!- and had a YCV meeting. Highlight definitely goes to spending Monday/Tuesday in London- I got to see various Queer Kids/Team Love, which made me beyond happy. And we saw Andrea Gibson live, which was fantasmagorical!! I will hopefully post more about stuff soon, but for now I'm going to leave it there. Sleep hasn't been too good due to quite intense exam stress, so I should make the most of feeling sleepy right now. Catch you later!!

General Life Update
NotRebecca
5/19/2015 10:02:00 pm
Hey... I've got lots of posts I want to do, and lots of recent happenings to talk about, but right now I'm exhausted so I thought I'd just do a general life update. What have I been up to lately? Well, revision, mostly. I had one exam last week; got two more this week, then another four after the half term. Revision's pretty much a constant, which is pretty sucky. But last week I went to see S Club, which was amazing. On Friday I helped present a thing about homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, then did a spoken word/poetry performance. It could've been a lot better, but that wasn't our fault, I think we did well. Also on Friday the Sofa Gang got together in the evening, so that was cool. Ooh, all last week I wore a different onesie every day for 2015in2015- pictures can be found at www.2015in2015.blogspot.com but I'll post some here too soon. Saturday was Good Gestures Day- I gave out random hugs/high fives to people. That was super!! Then this week is mega revision, but also exciting as I have a meeting tomorrow cor a school Young Carers group, and I'm on an interview panel at school on Thursday. Next week is half term, mostly revision but I am going to London for a couple of days which is really getting me through revision at the moment!! Going to a gig and to catch up with various London based friends; I can't wait. And this evening I had a revision break and went to Freedom, so that was good. I seriously can't wait for exams and have been quite stressed and very tired, but I'm making the most of things where I can!! That's pretty much all that's going on for me right now; how is your day going? X

I'm back from Gambia- yay?! Having a pretty serious case of the post-Gambia blues right now, which isn't too great... Meh. So things on the blog front might be a bit slow for a while, especially as I have a mountain of work to catch up on- but rest assured that my Gambia blog and pictures will be up in the next few weeks, along with a number of other posts I've been working on whilst away :)

Christmas Bits and Bobs
NotRebecca
1/09/2015 02:15:00 pm
I know, I know- it's the 9th of January, Christmas has come and gone, what on earth am I doing writing a Christmas post?! Well, unfortunately, I've not been very well since Christmas, and so I've not had a chance to put an update as to what I did over the festive period. However, as the blog forms a large part of a diary for me, I wanted to write something, both because I took some lovely pictures that I want to share, and because I want to have something to look back on! So allow me a small bit of Christmas reflection :)
On Christmas Eve, I took Ginny for a long dog walk, which was very relaxing and just generally really lovely. Pictured below is the view from where I was sat when I wrote my Christmas post.
After I'd walked the dog, I went home, lit some candles, put Frozen on and got all my wrapping done- talk about last minute! However, I'm pleased that I left it until then as it was a perfect way to spend Christmas Eve!
After a late night due to Christmas excitement and Midnight Mass, I got up early, opened my stocking, then went out for another long dog walk. Though it doesn't happen very often due to bad sleeping habits, I do really like early morning dog walks, and being out on Christmas Morning was especially nice as everyone I met stopped to exchange Christmas greetings! Plus the weather was just right for an early morning dog walk, and it was a good way to gather my thoughts before a very busy day :)
The rest of my Christmas day was spent going to church, opening presents, seeing family, having Christmas dinner and playing lots of games! It was a super good day, and couldn't have been better really!!
After the zoo, we went back to my aunt's house for present-opening, food, games and more time spent with family (including getting to see my uber-cute little cousin for the second time since she was born!!).

On Boxing Day, my family went to the zoo! Myself and the older section of my cousins went off by ourselves, though we kept bumping into the rest of the family, and had lots of fun looking around. The weather wasn't great as it was rainy, but it was quiet, which is pretty unusual for Bristol Zoo!After the zoo, we went back to my aunt's house for present-opening, food, games and more time spent with family (including getting to see my uber-cute little cousin for the second time since she was born!!).

After Christmas, we went to spend time with my family in Manchester. We had a really lovely few days, involving a trip into Manchester centre and a day spent in Liverpool, where we went to the docks and checked out the birthplace of the Beatles- both very exciting!! The only downside was that travel was really awful- on the way there because of the snow (which was actually pretty poor as far as we went- proven in the picture below!).

Lastly, the holidays ended with a pre-NY party with friends- and being ill until the rest of the holidays. Fun times!!

A lot of my posts recently seem to have been quite deep and thoughtful. If you're enjoying that, then the good news is that I have some more of those in the pipeline! However, I wanted to take some time now just to write a bit about my life- what I've been up to recently!
Last week was super super busy with the preparation for an event to mark World Mental Health Day. There was lots to do, especially as I was partly in charge of the social media side, so tried to get as much publicity done as possible. It was challenging at times, but I really threw myself into all of the preparation- mental health and it's awareness is something I feel incredibly strongly about, and it was good to have an outlet for that passion.
The actual event was on Saturday. I don't want to write much about it because I really want to give it it's own post, and do it justice there. For now I'll just say that the whole day was absolutely amazing- I loved every minute of it, and can't wait for the next opportunity to do something similar. It finished with bubble tea, a walk home in the dark, dancing through the park and the thought that I really do love what I do, and do what I love.
Sunday was quieter- I met up with a friend, watched TV and did some homework. I had the beginnings of a cold so didn't feel up to swim teaching; however, I went to youth group in the evening as I wanted to see my friends, and it was a really interesting session.
Woke up on Monday with a worse cold, and by Tuesday I was more than ready to take the day off of school and just curl up in bed! So that day was largely spent in my onesie, trying to get work done. I did manage to get out in the evening to walk the dog though, which was good.
Recovering from the cold now; I was back in sixth form yesterday, and that's where I am right now! this evening I've got a session with Mentality, the youth group who organised last week's WMHD event, and then I'm announcing at the swimming club championships. It'll be a busy evening, and I'm sure I'll be pretty glad when I'm tucked up in bed- but a good one too!
Next week is the start of the half-term, which I'm really looking forward to. I'm going to Sussex with a friend, then to somewhere near London with family. Also got a Young Carers event which I'm really looking forward to! Then the rest will be school work- revision and coursework. Fun fun fun...
So yeah, that's kind of my life lately. Being ill, sixth form, loads of school work, dog walking, family, volunteering and swimming... And less sleep than I would like!!

So um... Last week, I had NCS on Monday, then went away early Tuesday morning. Spent most of Tuesday travelling, then had some time to frolic with the elves in Efteling theme park. Wednesday and Thursday were both full park days, and Friday had some park time before more travelling (including huge delays), a shopping stop and yet more travelling. Saturday involved hair dyeing with BH, watching bake off with CF then going to the Balloon Fiesta with a huge group of people, culminating in a walk from Ashton Court to town... On Sunday I met up with BB and CF, and today I had NCS all day, followed by a trip to the library and a Brook Participation session. Now tidying my room because I'm having a sleepover on Friday and I don't know when else I'll get a chance to tidy- this week looks just as busy as the last! There are cool posts coming, I promise. Just... I really have no idea when! x

Remember last year when I did my Swim Teaching Level One course? Well, in less than two hours I'm starting Level Two. Essentially, this will qualify me to do what I'm doing, but also to get a paid job. That's quite cool to think about. I'll probably be the youngest on the course- the minimum age is seventeen, and I am not quite seventeen and three weeks. It's quite intense as well- 5 hours on a Friday and 8 on each Saturday and Sunday for three weeks. Plus of course there's the whole meeting new people, and teaching whilst being assessed, and all that jazz. However, I am really excited to learn more, and to get better- I really want to give the kids I teach the absolute best! Nervous, very nervous, but that's understandable, especially considering how busy and tiring this week has been!
Just for a general check-in- it's been a long and emotional week. There have been many tears. I've reached a point of being able to worry about and get upset about everything and anything. However, I know that this is because I'm tired, and because it has been a big week. Though there's part of my mind that thinks this is bad and that I'm getting ill again, I'm doing my best to reason with it. I'm human, and that means that there's going to be weeks when it feels like everything's going wrong. The best I can do is to cut myself some slack, talk to people and share my stress, and get more sleep.

I don't think I mentioned it on here, but I'm just back from a short trip to Barcelona! Two and a bit days spent doing lots and lots of walking and plenty of sight-seeing- fantastic! Will upload my diary over the next few days (if I can be dragged away from Skins for long enough, that is). Though the official half-term is coming to an end, I still have study leave for another week or so. My plans? Sleep lots, finish my ceiling, go to the school's annual production, get a froyo or two and just generally chill, preferably with friends. Now, however, a new hair idea calls...

Have A Little Faith In Spotify
NotRebecca
4/17/2014 11:05:00 pm
For a while, I've been trying to think of an alternate way of putting music on this blog. Youtube I use occasionally; however, it can be messy, and you never know what's going to come up at the end for 'recommended', plus it annoys BB- who's probably the biggest blog-reader, and is definitely the biggest commenter, so kinda deserves some inclusion ;) I've used Grooveshark as an alternative for quite a while, but that's been really annoying me- songs get removed from it quite often, so if I'm flicking back it comes up with 'song not found', plus I've had cases where songs stop in the middle and stuff. All very annoying!
However, I've noticed that a range of other blogs use Spotify- and if lots of other (pretty notable) bloggers use it, they must be doing something right! Created a blog-specific account to try it out, and so far, so good! I couldn't find the exact recording of the song I wanted to share (explained below) but I still found a good one. It's easy to embed, and it looks pretty professional. This feels like a good switch! Yay Spotify!
The song I'm sharing is one I heard a couple of years ago, but only really got interested in earlier this week. It's 'Have A Little Faith In Me', originally by John Hiatt. I heard in in New Year's Eve, and liked it, but didn't go out of my way to listen to it. Then it came up on a playlist I was listening to on Tuesday- and suddenly I realised I really really liked it!! I've been listening to the version used in the film, by Bon Jovi and Lea Michele, but couldn't find that one, so here's the original. The modulation (I think!?) around 2:50ish is perfect. Just saying.

You know those days when you suddenly remember you have a blog and you're kind of meant to post sort of regularly? Err, or you don't. If you don't, that would make you a much better blogger than I am. Kudos mate.
My main problem with blogging is that, to blog, you have to have stuff to blog about. And when you have stuff to blog about, it normally means you're off doing stuff, and you don't have time to blog. Sigh. It's tough, being a blogger. Tough, and yet I love it, and I'm still here, doing it. Yup.
But anyway. What have I been up to? Well... School, mainly. Fun times. Also I've been enjoying the weather, and doing lots of swimming stuff... Ooh, and I made a really big important decision! This is where I say that I'll do separate posts about all of this, and I forget. This time I WILL NOT forget. Expect blog posts on this stuff.
(The picture's not mine. I just think it's really cool.)

Merry Christmas
NotRebecca
12/25/2013 12:57:00 am
I've just got back from a midnight service, and am cuddled up in bed with warm milk and 'The Chalet School Christmas Story Book', so it seemed like a good time to do my Christmas post!
Last year I remember writing about remembering the true message of Christmas; I felt very sad then, for the shooting at Sandy Hook had been not long before, and my thoughts were full of all the bereaved families. Therefore, I want to begin with a word of love for them, a year on- though Christmas will never again be what it once was, I hope that they are doing the best they can, in the circumstances, and know that we're still thinking of them.
For a lot of people, Christmas is an incredibly hard time- though it can be a truly lovely time to come together, it can also be a painful reminder of people who aren't there, or similar things. It's also extremely stressful- families and friends are great, but all at once can be hard work. A lot of the time the world seems to go on about feeling festive without stopping to think of those who can't partake in those feelings, for all sorts of reasons. To those people- I love you, and I am thinking of you.
To stick with a serious note, it also often seems like the world forgets what Christmas is about. It's not about the presents, or the food, or dressing up an letting your hair down. It's about humanity, and love, and hope: a time for some of the most beautiful parts of human nature to come together. Please don't forget that, when you eagerly rush to see what Santa has brought you.
In the service I went to today, they spoke of my favourite historical event, and I want to share that with you: Christmas 1914, in the trenches. Many had hoped that World War One would be over by Christmas- obviously, that never happened. The soldiers felt demoralised, and probably as detached from Christmas as you can feel. However, in the midst of that, something magical happened: the German soldiers lit candles, and started singing carols. One of them got out of the trench, and walked bravely across 'No Man's Land'. It was a hugely risky move, but it paid off- the British soldiers did the same, joining in the carols and crossing to shake hands with their 'enemy'. For the whole of Christmas Day, they held a truce. The opposing soldiers came together to talk, to joke, to exchange small gifts, to play football- they even retold the Christmas story and prayed. One day of absolute peace.
I absolutely adore this story, and find it incredibly moving, because I think it reflects the true meaning of Christmas, as a time of peace; and when I say I wish Christmas was all year round, I'm not thinking of the presents, but of the positive feelings it provokes. I wish those would last.
It's really late now, and I need to get some sleep, so I'll finish there. But please, please- remember the true message of the celebrations. I love you; Merry Christmas one and all.

I have a working laptop!!!! Eep!! Very happy!- I can now do 'proper posts' ;) I thought that, seeing as I've been posting sporadically for ages, I'd do a recap as to what I've been up to since... ooh, the beginning of October!
The week after, I went on a walk around Bristol with my friend R, thus completing one of my 50 things! I will post all the pictures for this in a specific post later on; for now, have a picture of me and one of the most fabulous people I know :)
The highlight of my half-term was a trip to London. Again, this needs it's own post- all in due course!
November began pretty spectacularly, with a fancy dress roller disco, then a girly sleepover- here we are in our splendour
We also continued our new tradition of dressing up in Music, depending on what genre of music we're doing. Check out Punk Rock!
Next, of course, was Bonfire Night; and then my fantastic weekend comprising of both Gabrielle Aplin and KT Tunstall. My pictures are already posted- so have a Youtube video someone else took of KT Tunstall on the night I went. And also swoon when she says 'roleplay'.
In mid-November, everything seemed to get a little bit hyper. Take these, for example...
Aaand... Well, that's pretty much it really, picture wise. I have various posts to do that I would have done before- a couple of 50 Things ones, and a recap of the recent hair colours (too numerous to go into now!). Also hopefully going to do a post about the university course thingy I've been doing, which has been utterly fabulous- I've made a couple of absolutely amazing friends ^.^
For now, hasta la vista- I have soo much to do! But yay for laptops ;)
Starting where we left off- a couple of pictures from the amazing Laura Mvula concert I went to in October:

Another Brief Update :)

Oh my gosh!! I'm finally updating using a proper computer!! Don't get excited though- I'm using one of the school ones, so can't actually upload pics or anything :( At least, not at this stage...
Anyway, recently I have been up to... Well, I've been doing a course at Bristol University that's basically a taste of uni lectures for sixth formers. I'm doing Psychology, and am really enjoying it- I feel I've learnt a lot, got a good example of uni etc., and- best of all- made a couple of absolutely amazing friends!!
Speaking of them, last week we went to see Catching Fire together, which was very good. It kick-started me into reading the books, which are great- almost finished the second one, and would definitely reccommend them! :)
More things I've been up to... Sleeping? Homework? Swim teaching? Wow, I have an interesting life. Oh, wait, I went to a presentation evening and got an award for being involved with stuff and kind of for arguing. So that was good!
It's now getting close to home time and I think my friends haven't quite finished the Doritos yet, so I will go for now... However, I will try and update as soon as possible. I miss you, blog!! x

My dear blog! I have held off posting about the weekend because I really really want to do a pictures post (it needs doing justice!!), and I thought I would have a laptop by now. Obviously, that is not the case :( However, I should be re-laptop-ed by this weekend (fingers crossed!!) and will then post several picture posts over the next week or so that I've been meaning to do. Why Hello There
NotRebecca
10/25/2013 04:13:00 pm
More apologies for all of posting! I hope to have a laptop again sometime next week... Though how busy I'll be remains to be seen!!
Sooo, right now I am sat on the floor of my bedroom, which is looking crazily clean and tidy!! I think I've completed another of my 50 things (fully sorting out my room)- so as soon as I can I will do a post for that :)
I am also very excited because I'm going to London for the weekend! We're mainly going for the Harry Potter exhibition (!!!), but also doing touristy things like Covent Garden and Camden Market (two of my absolute favourite places in the history of ever).
What else have I been up to recently? Well, last week I completed another of my 50 things (can you tell I'm on a roll?!) as my friend R and I went for a walk around Bristol; lots of lovely pictures to share.
This week has been half-term, so I've been doing a LOT of revision and general school-work, which has been tiring. Also been sleeping a lot, and tidying and... Well, that's pretty much it. BB and I had a rehearsal on Tuesday, which went well- we've got some more songs ready for a break time concert at school, which should be fab :)
Also on Wednesday I had the first 'proper' session of a university link thing I'm doing, which was very good. I'm doing Psychology, and we got taken to AtBristol to look at the brain stuff. Which we did. Totally. I mean, it's not as if we did a sports competition or blew bubbles or played volleyball or anything. And there is definitely not a picture of 'our group' in the womb... Um. Yeah. It was super, anyway! I was nervous about it but I've already made some fab friends, so yay! :D
Right, I am going to go now because I have last bits of tidying to do, and packing and everything... Sorry for a bit of an itty-bitty post. Can't wait till I have the time and facility to post more regularly!!
Big love xo

Sixth Form, Eep!

Before I write this, I would just like to point out that I have written three posts in the last two days. Three. Feel lucky. Feel very very lucky! (Even though this post is sooo overdue it probably doesn't count...)
Anyway. I've now been in sixth form for four weeks and... I'm really really enjoying it! I'm studying the subjects I enjoy, we get a lot more freedom, no uniform (totally doesn't take me ages to get dressed each morning!), we've been reunited with Music, we get more breaks, we've set up base on the sofas whenever we're not in lessons... What's not to love?! Sure, it's a heck of a lot more work, but it's all so so interesting. And now we can laugh at all the Year 11s who have absolutely no idea what their year comprises of (work, and nothing else).
I've also felt really really supported in the transition- I have a mentoring session with my tutor at least once a week, and have a book to write in when things aren't going so well, which she can then read when possible. I've got a lot closer to people who I knew vaguely from before, and I feel so so happy with these friendships! We can literally discuss anything. It's fab.
I can't really think of much else to say 'cause I'm just going to go on about how great it is, so here are my compatriots from this afternoon and myself. Obviously hard at work. Yeah. Work.

Once again, I haven't forgotten you, I promise!! Just been very very busy settling into sixth form- I need to blog about this soon!!
Other things I've been up to recently? Well:
- Dying my hair (of course!- pics to come)
- Doing lots and lots of work (does it ever end?!)
- Chatting, a lot, generally on sofas (our sixth form base, as I loathe the common room)
- Getting into the spirit of pop through the ages and thoroughly enjoying AS Music!! (needs more explanation- pictures to come!!)
- Trying my absolute hardest to work at recovery; currently, this involves eating properly, sleeping lots, doing things I don't want to do- such as psychotherapy- and managing to get to over 30 days without self-harming, which isn't my best... But considering how busy life has been, and how low my mood has been, it's a pretty huge success. My current aim is to get to 40 days, though really I absolutely want to never do it ever again. Determination.
- Working out my Hair Affair total; again, this merits a post of it's own!!
- Being, well, a little bit heartbroken, in case you hadn't guessed from my last post. There's a letter to come from this; and then, hopefully, closure.
So that's... 5 posts I've just promised you. Crickey! Better get to work.
Firstly, however, I have hair dye to sort out. Catch ya later!

I've had- am having!- such a busy week!! Currently juggling both work experience (assisting in the Science department at school) and a swim teaching course (level 1). Both are going well- I've passed the practical side of my swim stuff, just the theory to go. We've also been given a night off tomorrow to celebrate ^.^ Well, mainly because we were meant to be doing more practical, which we don't need anymore.
I will write more about each soon, just wanted to get a bit down now. Seeya :) x
Oooh, also- I'm doing a week without Facebook, so I'll report on how that went sometime next week!

What I Do When I'm Not Blogging...

Obviously, chilling in the sunshine. As you can tell, the sun affects me in weird ways:
I wish, anyway. That was a bit of procrastination yesterday. My main objective of the weekend has been to memorise the whole of international happenings from 1900-1939. I'm employing primary school tactics (look, cover, write, check) and using LoveFilm as a background thing (it sounds like a bad idea because it's distraction, but I argue that it makes me more focused because it reduces chance of getting distracted by everything else!).
Anyway, that's my update for the day ;)
